Embrace the Moment
I have sat in countless dark auditoriums, watching my daughter dance her heart out, clutching bouquets of pink roses (usually covered in glitter) with my heart filled with sweet feelings of admiration, and joy. I used to try to record these recitals on video, until one day it became clear to me that I was missing out…I was distracted. I vowed to be completely present once I realized that I was cheating myself out of these special moments.
My daughter has moved from recitals onto professional dance performances and is now entering into dancing as a career. I sat in her last performance, clutching my bouquet of flowers in one hand and a tissue in the other…recording every moment with each fiber of my being. I fully embraced the entire experience…free from distraction, and I do not regret it. You can never fully experience a moment when looking through a lens. Some moments are best “in real life”.
